  • Abstract
Hemodynamic factors and biomechanical forces play key roles in atherogenesis, the new plaque formation and development. In this paper, an assumed curved vessel model existing local small plaques is introduced to analyze blood flow and vessel wall properties with fluid-structure interaction under physiological pulsatile flow condition. Through the numerical simulation, the models with different plaque size (height) and interval are calculated. The results show preliminarily but clearly that the reversed flow region worsens and the peak wall shear stress rises as the interval of plaques increases from 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm for the same height of plaques, and the influences of plaque height and interval on the reversed flow and the peak wall shear stress are similar. The low and oscillatory wall shear stresses are found in each model at the upstream and downstream of plaque region. This research may contribute to better understanding new plaque formation and further development.
