Abstract :
The Transportation Development Centre (TDC), in collaboration with the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), is pursuing an integrated, predictive maintenance system for ship-based maintenance activity. The system is composed of three predictive techniques; oil analysis, vibration analysis and the performance analysis software system (PASS). PASS has been developed to carry out real-time monitoring of ship´s propulsion and ancillary equipment, to measure machine efficiency, and track usage of rotating and reciprocating equipment. The functional requirements of this predictive maintenance tool are split between a real-time data acquisition, conversion and storage component, and an analysis capability that depends on its knowledge-base to evaluate performance data and advise equipment maintainers. Some of the key performance analysis technologies employed are exhaust gas temperature spread, turbocharger performance analysis, diesel cylinder pressure analysis, usage tracking, AC drive train performance and pump-motor set performance among other techniques
