Abstract :
The proposed work aims to characterize and optimize the newly built 14.5 GHz ECRIS source in the Institute of ion beam physics and Material Research at Forschungszentrum Rossendorf (FZR), Germany to enhance the production of highly charged ions and for stable operation of the source to the theoretical possibility of using it as propulsion device for spacecrafts. X-ray spectroscopy method is used to characterize the plasma and the ion charge states in relation to the different source parameters. Based on the results its discusses the possibility of the source to be use as a ion thruster.
