Abstract :
Facing computing and data intensive problems scientists are forced to use all the available resources to solve their problems. This applies to the usage of different distributed e-Infrastructures based on different concepts and architectures. Providing the end user with easy access to such complex systems is a very challenging task and refers to the issues related to the interoperability and interoperation between different middleware solutions. One of the key goals of the EU-funded EUFORIA (EU for ITER Applications) project is to provide an integrated environment for fusion modelling on the grid/HPC infrastructure. This paper presents architecture that simplifies the connection between the workflow engine (end user experience) and various middleware stacks (middleware layer). The core of the system - workflow orchestration system (Kepler engine) has been extended in order to incorporate, in a transparent manner, the grid and HPC. The Presented solution has empowered computing capabilities with fusion applications by providing efficient and easy access to the distributed infrastructures. The current status and technical capabilities of this integrated framework for fusion modelling (developed in terms of the EUFORIA project) are presented and discussed in this paper as well. The different components of this architecture are being described with special emphasis on a cross-platform interoperability, user-friendliness, incorporated and intuitive access to the distributed environment as well as unified data access. TheTechnical details are presented on an example of the usage scenarios validating the usefulness of the proposed solution.
