Abstract
A compact printed ultra-wideband dipole antenna is proposed. The antenna is integrated with a parallel transmission line and a patch. The components of the antenna are etched onto a piece of printed circuit board (PCB) with an overall size of 9 mm × 57.5 mm × 1.6 mm. The measured results of the antenna illustrate that it offers a bandwidth of over 95.5% for VSWR less than 2, covering from 3.5 GHz to 9.9 GHz. Radiation patterns, current distributions, and antenna gains at different frequencies are also explored. It is shown that the antenna has good gains, and similar radiations as those of a conventional dipole. In addition, some parametric studies of the geometric and electric parameters of the proposed antenna will be explored within further discussions to provide an inside view of antenna design.
