Abstract
The effects of hydrophobicity loss by water immersion and hydrophobicity recovery in vacuum at elevated temperature were evaluated on two types of RTV insulator coatings by receding angle and DC leakage current measurements. The loss and recovery treatments were repeated five times until signs of material deterioration appeared. An increase of the leakage current was noticed as a result of the deterioration despite the fact that the hydrophobicity recovered well. A possible application of water immersion and vacuum resting is foreseen in the testing of composite and silicone rubber coated insulators
