Abstract :
A combination of patch antenna and electromagnetic band-gap structure, for bandwidth enhancement purposes, is presented. To overcome several intrinsic limitations of patch antennas such as narrow bandwidth, low gain, excitation of surface waves, the EBG concept is used. The patch antenna and patch antenna surrounded by the EBG cells are characterized in terms of return loss and radiation pattern in an anechoic chamber.
