Abstract
The effect of polarisation diversity on communications in a multipath environment is investigated in the paper. It is shown for the first time that multipath and polarisation rotation effects are much less pronounced for the phase conjugation assisted communication case than for the conventional case and that the former yields gain of more than 9dB over the latter for any combination of propagation polarisation. Thus phase conjugated assisted augmentation of a conventional communication system offers the prospect for more robust communications in propagation hostile environments such as urban canyons.
