Abstract :
Information systems have reached an essential position in all business environments. There is an ever-increasing demand for accurate and real-time data. In fact, the next era is often called “the information age”. In dynamic industrial environments this development has not been so rapid due to the insufficient and not so reliable data transfer solutions. This paper describes a new and reliable wireless concept for the underground mine mobile computing systems. Conventionally these information are transferred manually and this new concept will provide wireless and real-time connection with full coverage from the underground mine to the enterprise information system. The approach is to focus on a mobile computing solution for an underground mine by describing an implementation case from the mine industry as an example of how to use this concept. From this example it is possible to see how important it is to have the full wireless coverage to the underground mine. Future expectations and the development in the field are discussed as well
