Abstract :
The paper presents a microstrip switched beam patch array for commercial WPAN systems at 60 GHz. The low cost printed circuit implementation allows the usage in commercial high data rate access points with high quantities. Top and bottom layer of a Rogers RO 4003® substrate are used and connected by capacitive coupling to avoid vias. In addition to simulation and measurement results, the paper shows the limitations for high data rate communications due to the usable bandwidth. Combined with qualified MMICs the antenna can be used in beam scanning multi device communication access points with data rates higher than 2 Gbit/s.
