Abstract :
This article reports on a finite element analysis assisted optimisation strategy for a moving magnet, transverse flux, short stroke linear generator for free-piston Stirling engine applications. The optimisation goal was to maximise the power-to-weight ratio while maintaining pre-set power and efficiency levels. The topology and the implementation of the optimisation strategy are discussed, followed by a comparison between simulated and measured results for a 3 kW prototype.
