Abstract :
The present work presents a theoretical performance evaluation of small tubular linear motors for refrigeration application when using segmented NdFeB magnets. The segmentation of the motor magnets is used to reduce the cost and difficulties of manufacturing. The results are compared via finite element method to one-piece magnets in terms of generated flux, flux leakage, magnet losses and steel losses. The segmentation was evaluated in two steps, using parallel and radial orientation.
