Abstract :
This paper studies both theoretically and experimentally, the excitation of magnetoinductive waves in uniaxial composite metamaterial structures composed of split-ring resonators (SRRs). A slab of a magnetic metamaterial is excited by a monopole antenna and analyse the beam structure behind the slab. Though the scale of the composite constituents are much smaller then the wavelength of radiation, the approximation based on an effective medium fails to describe all observed effects, including the multiple beam splitting. A numerical algorithm is developed for describing the lattices of SRRs in terms of interacting dipoles, and confirm qualitatively the effects observed in experiment.
