Abstract :
The D0 detector is a general-purpose hadron collider detector presently under construction at Fermilab and scheduled to be put in operation in the fall of 1991. The muon detection system was designed using standard 2-D codes and flux maps inside were obtained for each of the toroids taken separately. Various magnetic field measurements were performed; discrepancies with the design calculations have been observed and attributed to three-dimensional effects. In the present work, the authors compare the predictions of the 2-D computations to 3-D calculations for a fully assembled detector. They also estimate the electromagnetic forces between the toroids and discuss other 3-D effects, in particular, the effect of the supporting platform.<>
