Abstract :
Aging under high humidity and elevated temperature was carried out on a bisphenol-A epoxy/silica insulating composite, which has been used as electrical insulation for high voltage switchgear. Dielectric measurements as well as DMTA, DSC, FTIR analysis were carried out on the aged samples. It was found that the mass of aged samples decreased with aging. The DMTA and DSC results showed that the cross-linking density and glass transition temperatures of the aged composite were lowered. While the dielectric properties changed significantly due to aging, FTIR results showed changes in the concentration of different function groups. It is believed that these property and structural changes were caused by uncross-linking due to hydrolysis degradation processes
