  • Abstract
This paper describes a high performance circular polarized antenna array, which was designed to operate as a self steered (retrodirective) array. Here we will demonstrate, that the retrodirective architecture can be instantly converted to a basic electronically steered array, without any component changes to the retrodirective architecture. This ability to steer a beam in predefined direction is essential for use within satellite ground terminals for service activated SATCOM systems where the user terminal needs to first initiate a tracking signal transmission from the satellite, before switching to retrodirective mode.
