Abstract :
This paper presents a design of a high-performance data replication system on FreeBSD (FRS). The system is embedded into replication device driver layer, does not depend on specific storage devices and logical volume manager, can achieve replication on data block level, has a strong independent, flexible and versatile. We describe the design considerations and decisions in defining HRS: Why replication runs on logical volume? Why embeds replication device driver layer, Why runs on self-designed logical volume manager to manage replication objects? Why is replication protocol defined over TCP and so on.
