Abstract :
Idle signal multiple access (ISMA) systems are known to obtain high throughput in the situation that a number of terminals transmit data packets to a base station over a common radio channel. In these systems, the base station broadcasts signals which inform all terminals channel status of idle or busy. Each terminal is allowed to transmit a packet only when it receives an idle signal. In this paper, we propose the ISMA system which supports prioritized traffic by using multiple idle signals. Throughput and delay performances are analyzed by numerical calculation and compared with simulated results. It is shown that the proposed system achieves good performance for higher priority terminals without decreasing total throughput
