Abstract
The application of a self-tuned fuzzy controller as a power system stabilizer is introduced. The output stabilizing signal from the controller is computed using a standard fuzzy membership function as well as a self tuning parameter. The calculation is based on the representation of the alternator state in the phase plane. Simulation results have been performed for various operating conditions under different disturbances. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and improved response of the proposed controller. It does not require any parameter identification in real time and has a much simpler algorithm than that for a self-tuning controller which is based on the adaptive control technique
