Abstract
This study aimed to explore main factors influencing energy consumption patterns, and investigate which one had main effect in the cities of developing China having greater than two million populations. 40 parameters related to city energy consumption of core areas of 21 major cities with population above two million were collected from statistical data for 2006. These parameters were divided into live groups: city attribute, demography, economy, industries, city transport and domesticity. By using bivariate correlation analysis 23 significant parameters were selected, and then they were reduced to 4 independent influencing factors in factor analysis. Regression analysis on the relation between the influencing factors and the city energy consumption indicator showed that two factors associating with city level have more influence than another two factors describing household level effects.
