Abstract
Scottish Hydro Electric PLC is responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity over an area of 55167 square kilometres situated north and west of a line from the Firth of Tay to the Firth of Clyde. 55 hydroelectric stations are located throughout this area and 47 of the major stations are operated and administered from two control centres situated north and south of the Grampian mountain range. The authors describe the plant that is controlled, planning of the control system and control centres, the instrumentation and control equipment, and operational experience
