Abstract :
Managing large number of concurrent channels in a video server is the main barrier to implement harmonic broadcast (L.S. Juhn and L.M. Tseng, 1997) in real applications. In this paper, we propose a new transmission scheme denoted as peer-to-peer broadcasting scheme (PPBS) to decentralize the workload over a number of peer servers. To handle the dynamic nature of peer-to-peer paradigm and insure continuous delivery of video data, a reliability model as well as failure detection and recovery mechanism are developed
