Abstract :
This paper presents an efficient algorithm to reduce redundant DCT and quantization computations for AVS-P2 encoding. A theoretical analysis is performed to study the sufficient condition for DCT coefficients to be quantized to zeros in AVS-P2. As a result, a sufficient condition derived to early detect all-zero 8 x 8 DCT blocks. Compared with original algorithms in reference software rm52j, the proposed algorithm provides a new method and efficient condition to predict all-zero DCT blocks. The experimental results demonstrate this new all-zero block method reduces the computational complexity of AVS-P2 encoder remarkably while the degradation in video quality is negligible.
