Abstract :
In this communication, the results of some investigations on two recently introduced evolutionary algorithms are presented. The first considered algorithm is a modification of the genetic algorithm (GA) and it is named StudGA, while the second one, the Biogeography Based Algorithm (BBO), is a new approach based on the mathematical modelization of biogeography. The two techniques have been tested both in terms of capability and reliability of convergence. For doing that, they have been applied to a set of benchmark functions, as well as to a real-life problem, i.e. the design of a microwave band-pass filter, even if they can be used for the optimized design of any other device, as antennas.
