The study attempted to explore the practice of the competency standard of R&D engineers and managers. This qualitative study, based on in-depth interviews applied the behavior descriptive method by analyzing high-performance junior R&D engineers, senior R&D engineers and R&D managers a case company. The results lighted out the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for such practice. And these form the basis of a competency framework of measurable criteria to R&D staff training needs.
