Abstract :
This application presentation consists primarily of design of piezoelectric drives for track following systems and a method of generating the position error signal (PES) from a combination of features that exist within the recording format and the physical structure of the tape read heads in the helical scan tape drives. This design technique and the PES generation are then utilized to obtain enhanced tracking in the helically written tape drives.
