Importance of Environmental Education for Raising Environmental Consciousness in Japan

To realize coordinated development of economy and environment, the Japanese government promulgates the Basic Law on Promoting the Building of a Circular Society and makes the building of a sustainable and circular society an important goal for national development. Environmental education plays a decisive role in raising people´s environmental consciousness and building a circular society. Based on the developing process of environmental education in Japan, this paper describes environmental education in schools, enterprises, society and environmental publicity in Japan, analyzes the results of environmental education and explores the importance of environmental education for raising people´s environmental consciousness.
