Abstract :
A novel approach is used to derive an accurate and simple analytical formula to calculate the resistance of a rodbed in a two-layer earth. First, we use the IEEE-standard formula for a single driven rod resistance and multiply it by a factor “F” to obtain the resistance of the rodbed. This “F” factor is derived based on the analytical moment method and duality concept. Second, for a two-layer earth we modify the IEEE-standard formula for a single rod to include the effects of the infinite series of images. Upper and lower rodbed parts resistances are calculated and combined to obtain the total resistance of the rodbed using the synthetic asymptote technique. The results of the formula are compared with the published detailed moment method results, the agreement is very good
