Abstract :
Recently, small handset antennas have been under investigation. In this paper, a small broadband antenna using a composite right/left-handed transmission line is proposed for mobile handsets. First, the gain and bandwidth characteristics of the symmetrical mushroom-type unit cell are investigated. For a high gain to be achieved at the resonant frequency or under broadband operation, the operational mode of the proposed antenna can be controlled by changing the open- or short-circuit conditions.
