  • Abstract
Lingqu canal has been established about two thousand years, and it is still safely on working now. It conceived a lot of excellent construct techniques and plain thought of environmental geotechnical engineering, worthing being studied by the present engineer of hydroelectricity engineering. Especially for the engineering of channeling to transfer water in southward river into northward river in China, which channel will cross different river drainage area and channel water in large quantity for a long distance, it has extremely significance to summarize and abstract the key points of Lingqu canal construction and to sum up its scientific ideas. The idea of people-water in harmony development is the main cause to make Ling channel, the ancient notable hydraulic engineering, run safely. Under this idea, the ancient hydraulic engineering, by way of adjusting measures to suit to local conditions, planning rationally and reducing the disturbance to nature, successfully avoided or reduced the occur of environmental geotechnical engineering problem, skillfully used the assembly of projects to reduce hydraulic engineering problem. These experiences deserve to study deeply.
