Abstract :
Provides an overview of the state-of-the-art measurement techniques used to assess the electromagnetic compatibility between various systems onboard a modern aircraft. Avionic equipment susceptibility assessments and wiring loom induced current measurements are carried out using aircraft onboard transmitting systems. Bulk current injection techniques (BCI) are applied to the aircraft wiring looms to determine avionic equipment malfunction profiles in terms of frequency and amplitude. Safety margins can then be determined using the results of these measurements. Measurement techniques are described to assess the performance of antenna based systems including VSWR, antenna noise due to radiated emissions, antenna to antenna `inband´ coupling and harmonic frequency coupling
