Abstract
The performance of a standalone variable speed constant frequency generation-system under steady state and transient conditions, employing a double output induction machine and PWM power converters is investigated. System equations at steady state were derived in the stator flux oriented synchronously rotating reference frame. A computer program was developed to minimize the total kVA rating of the PWM converters within the thermal limits of the machine. Conditions for DC link voltage build up were established theoretically. A control algorithm for the complete system including voltage buildup phase was developed. Finally the performance of the proposed scheme was verified by computer simulation. Excellent voltage and frequency regulation against wide variation in load and prime mover speed are observed.
