Abstract
Image processing technology has been applied to resolve the distortion and smear of lanes on DNA fingerprints. Image process of various marker technologies such as RFLP, RAPD, AFLP and SSR not only endows the marker-itself information but also is useful for genetics, genomics and bioinformatics. Marker information that is previously obtained manually could be scored automatically by using image processing technology. In order to facilitate this process, we defined the distortion and smear of lanes and used Hough Transform and robust multi-thresholds. These methods could estimate and amend the distortion of lanes, identify the smeared lanes and moreover exclude the irrelevant lanes. Finally this current image processing method could score each marker lane into binary form.
