Good ecological environment, acting as urban development direction, is necessary demand to urban sustainable development. In order to realize the development, the urban space layout must combine with the urban ecological sustainable system. In this paper, Zhangye city planning is regarded as an example, making ecology control concept, setting up ecological area basing on the feature of urban ecological environment, constructing urban ecological space layout, emphasizing the reasonable usage on land resources, the key is changed from expansionism to inside space reorganization. Hence, it leads to the urban development with sequential and effective, so the ecology control concept has some practical meaning to guide urban space layout study, it can realize the good circulation between the urban development and ecological protection, finally, it provides a reference for setting up a sustainable ecological city.
