Abstract
Blotches are the common artifacts in archived films image sequences. The processing procedure of the existing methods can be characterized as two parts: detection and restoration. This paper focuses on some problems about both parts. For blotches detection, a new post processing method based on region labeling is presented to remove the noises. For restoration, the simplified motion vector repair algorithm is employed and then the over-restoration method is used to solve the blotch edge blurry problem. The proposed algorithms have been tested with real film image sequences and the experimental results demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of our methods in terms of both detection and restoration of blotches.
