Abstract :
This paper describes the implementation and simulation results of a very compact and low power microstrip patch antenna for the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). The microstrip patch antenna, due to compactness and its light weight, finds wide applications in narrow band wireless communications. These are generally resonant surface printed patches in various shapes with different feeding techniques. Patch antennas are quite desirable and suitable for RFID reader tags. RFIDs have many applications in healthcare, supply management, vehicular technology and Internet of Things (IoT). A new patch antenna of a size of 45 (L) × 20 (W) square mm is proposed for RFID tag reader. The patch has a slot of 0.8 mm width centrally located. The patch has an operating frequency band of 2.3–2.4 GHz. It has shown quite low return loss of about - 33 dB, gain of 8 dBi and good directivity in a hemispherical region. It can be used in compact and portable RFID tag reader devices.
