Abstract :
A new type of relay model switch has been developed providing both controlled contact movement and force measurement in two directions perpendicular and parallel to the contact plane. First experiments applying a tangential component of contact motion at break only yielded surprising results about the influences of that component, the contact material, and the current (up to 10 A make only).
