Abstract
In this paper, we present a higher order edge-aware texture smoothing technique using the partial shape preserving spline (PSPS). PSPS is a spline technique similar to B-spline in its simplicity of mathematical representation, but it has a shape design capability more powerful than NURBS. The distinguishing characteristic of PSPS is that it allows to combine different geometric primitives together with their original shapes being preserved to any required extent. Compared with the texture filters designed using B-splines, high-order continuous texture filters designed using PSPS is a kind of edge-aware filters, which is a valuable feature when sharp edges in a texture needs to be preserved.
