Abstract
The Linear Transformer Driver (LTD) technology is a new approach to construct high-voltage, high-current pulsed-power accelerators. Linear Transformer drivers, however, place stringent demands on synchronous trigger system. The paper proposes a new synchronous triggering technology, which is named as LTD-trigger. The LTDtrigger divides a pulse to a number of synchronous pulses through inductive transformer. Hence, the LTD-trigger is a kind of induction voltage divider and it operates like a reversed-LTD. The configuration of LTD-trigger is similar to LTD and the output port and input port is opposite to LTD. In order to analyze the working principle of LTDtrigger, an equivalent circuit model and an experimental prototype are established. The LTD-trigger experimental prototype can generate 20 synchronous trigger pulses with voltage amplitude of 23 kV and rise time of about 70 ns. The simulation and experimental results show a good performance of synchronization among the output trigger pulses. The stability of LTD-trigger is tested while some circuit faults occur.
