Abstract
This paper presents an approach, which allows the optimal placement of thyristor controlled phase shifters (TCPS) to maximize the system loadability, not only for the base case network topology but also under important contingencies using the dc power flow model. The problem formulation follows that of Lima, FGM, et al. (2003) but extends its results to the case of contingencies. IEEE 30 bus is used as an example to demonstrate the effectiveness of the described method.
