Abstract :
A practical method for expanding the dynamic range and resolution of imaging system for robot vision was proposed. The basic principle of the method is combining the half pixel offset high resolution image reconstruction with multiple image sensors high dynamic range image reconstruction. In the method, a special pattern of multiple image sensors is employed and the exposure time of sensors is different from each other. The captured low resolution (LR) and low dynamic range (LDR) images are mapped to a high dynamic range (HDR) image using an efficient image reconstruction algorithm. The end result is an imaging system that can measure a very wide range of scene radiances with an improvement in spatial resolution, which satisfies the requirements for the vehicle application. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of our method and demonstrate its superiority to other traditional methods.
