Abstract :
In this study, a calcium phosphate cement was developed, which was injectable and could be molded into any desired shape. The powder component consisted of an equimolar mixture of tetracalcium phosphate and dicalcium phosphate anhydrous. The liquid component consisted of chitosan (3 wt%), citric acid (5 wt%) and glucose (15 wt%) solution. The mechanical properties and biocompatibility of the cement were investigated. The setting time of the cement was 7.20 plusmn 0.39 min, and the compressive strength was 30.2 plusmn 0.8 MPa. The effects of preparing conditions, such as powder-to-liquid ratio and particle size, on setting time and compressive strength of calcium phosphate cement were analyzed systematically. The animal experiments showed that the material was nontoxic and osteoinductivity.
