Abstract :
The potential of using a textile microstrip patch antenna on stripline to realise a switchable on/off-body communication system at 2.45GHz is presented. Two PIN diodes are employed to achieve a reconfigurable stripline network with two output striplines, one for feeding the antenna through an aperture electromagnetically (off-body mode), and the other for propagating signals along the transmission line (on-body mode). The state of the PIN diodes is controlled by DC bias voltages supplied through bias-T connectors on both ends of the stripline. Simulations and measurements are presented for S-parameter characteristics of two samples of different length (100mm and 600mm) and they show transmission loss of around 2dB and 5dB in their on-body mode, and antenna gain of 2dBi in the off-body mode of operation.
