Abstract
The author describes the RF system of a typical clinical linear accelerator used for radiotherapy purposes. Having worked on the Varian Clinac 2100 (CL2100) series and its predecessors for several years, he chooses it as typical. It is a very complex electromechanical device weighing over 10 tons and capable of being serviced by a moderately trained technician. The CL2100 is a klystron driven machine, but there are few differences between these and magnetron driven systems (CL600) series.<>
