Abstract :
The current fashion for pushing toward “object oriented” (Oh-Oh!) methodologies, tools (manage objects not data), and terminology (business objects design) has obscured the real advantages of object-orientation and object driven design and implementation. A perspective view is presented of object-orientation and the separation of object oriented implementation from some of the most fashionable tools (C++, 00 databases, and client-server object oriented database implementation). The view of object orientation and implementation is taken from a practitioner´s viewpoint where new technologies, old technologies, experienced people, and inexperienced people are side-by-side. Platforms, codes, and fashions can be viewed with perspective so as not to repeat history or bend a good technique in an attempt to be one-size-fits-all. The objections raised to Objects are not a wholesale condemnation of object-oriented design and development. Objects are not a cure-all for problems in infrastructure deployment, configuration management, development productivity, or software maintenance
