  • Abstract
Power Quality is simply the interaction of electrical power with electrical equipment. In recent years power quality (PQ) has become a major concern to both power utilities and power customers, due to the complexity of modern power system. Occurrences of faults and frequency of normal switching actions is increasing day by day. The faults and switching actions often produces disturbances which can give rise to equipment damage, failure, malfunction and degradation of electric power quality. Mitigation of voltage sag is carried out using dedicated experimental set up in laboratory with various topologies of static var compensator (SVC) and booster transformer. The results of these topologies are presented in this work. The switching events like change of transformer taps, starting of induction motor are used to create the voltage sag. These events are controlled through FPGA based algorithm. Fuzzy logic controller is designed to achieve the firing angles for SVC which maintains voltage profile.
