Abstract
Referring to previous decade usage of non linear loads in power systems arises many power quality problems. This paper presents 3 phase shunt active power filter based on 3 level neutral point clamped inverter structure. This study finally proposes an approach based on to determine the losses occurring in inverter for a specific period. The overall approach reveals the compensation current contains unwanted active current component with fundamental frequency results in fall of DC voltage level of shunt active power filter. In order to maintain DC voltage level proportional integral controller is used. This study modeled under MATLAB/SIMULATION shows the approach is not a complicated one and also it is cheaper and effective than classical PI controller.
