Abstract :
Pacific Bell´s Consumer Broadband Network (CBN) is a hybrid fiber coax (HFC) design capable of responding to varying service demands. The CBN is a full service network capable of providing broadcast analog video, MPEG digital video, interactive multimedia narrowband telephony, ISDN and wideband data (LAN) to the consumer and small business markets. This paper is based upon our experience in the design and construction of the network, which passes 500000 homes. The paper describes the base architecture and how extensions to that architecture and improvements in transmission techniques are used to satisfy growing demands over the life of the network
