Abstract
This paper presents the performance analysis of an active power filter (APF) using a three-level neutral point-clamped voltage source inverter. This APF can effectively compensate current harmonics and reactive power. The operating principles and the generation method of reference currents using modified classical PQ instantaneous method are presented. This modified method is suitable for the case of voltages contaminated by harmonics in a three-phase power system. The dynamic behaviour of the system is analysed using Simulink with SimPower Systems toolbox through a set of simulation tests. The results obtained may lead to a correct design of a robust controller for current harmonics and reactive power applications
