Abstract
Single tone, low baud rate modems are used in communications over shortwave radio channels. A modified Goertzel algorithm that rapidly acquires signal parameters under adverse conditions is used. By applying frame excision, a single tone modem that is more tolerant to intersymbol interference and frame synchronization errors may be designed.
